22 march 37 d
Wednesday, Mar. 31
A disagreeable day, Temp in -20˚, thick & a biting N. & N.N.W. (true)
wind in our faces. Per contra good going, some young ice then large hard
level old floes. During last half of march obliged repeatedly to jump on
the sledges to keep up. Cleared off in evening an hour our two before we
stopped.
(23 miles) If the Captain's observations tomorrow do not place us on the
88th parallel it will be because this north wind has set us south by
crushing up the young ice behind us. |
