| [Appears to be continuation of day before.] |
Covered 2 marches & camp close to 87˚. Hope reach Marvin's
return igloos tomorrow. I shall be glad when we get there into the big
ice again.
This region here was open water as late as Feb. & early Mar,
& is now covered with young ice, beautiful to travel on but extremely
unreliable as a means of return. A few hours of brisk wind E., W. or S.
would make this entire region open water for 50 to 60 miles N&S, &
unknown extent E&W.
Only calm weather or N-ly wind keeps it practicable.

Camp Abruzzi, 86˚ 38'. A long double march (18 hours). Trail faulted in
several places but we picked it up again each time. |
